Back story

Skin care entrepreneur and visionary, Cristina Carlino, founded philosophy cosmetics in 1996. With decades of experience in the industry and a successful medically based skin care line (Biomedic) under her belt, Ms. Carlino sought to bridge the gap between what was offered in doctors’ offices and retail outlets. Her vision was for women everywhere to be able to personally access leading skin care technologies.

Cristina envisioned a company that was different—one that promised its customers products that inspired them to live a better life by being better to themselves. Her company took a mind, body and spirit approach to personal care and told women that only when they felt good could they truly look their best.

To further differentiate itself, philosophy decided to use children’s pictures and lowercase writing as a way to highlight the simple pleasures in life and remember the genuine curiosity and wisdom that is the childhood consciousness in us all. Following an acquisition in 2007, philosophy identified increased needs for training and development in the face of considerable domestic and international growth.

We expect to see measurable gains in areas such as cost reduction, productivity and sales volume.

Purpose

Continuing business growth has brought a number of challenges into sharp focus. The company has limited staff to conduct training and development. The inability to track employee course training, generate reports, publish elearning courses, assess learning, print certificates and easily administer employee and non-employee activities magnifies the challenges. Significant turnover and multiple types of learners in different environments heighten the need for engaging training and development solutions.

Action

At the request of philosophy, Maestro conducted two days on intense on-site discovery. The objective of these sessions was to conduct a current-state analysis of business and training strategies, people, infrastructure and processes.

Following those sessions, Maestro analyzed the findings and provided recommendations for future enhancements to drive business value and impact. Key among them were suggestions to create a strategic plan for training and development, develop a brand/messaging platform for training and create a family of elearning modules, to be completed and deployed in phases.

How we will measure success

In time, philosophy will establish specific guidelines for specifically measuring improvements. We expect to see measurable gains in areas such as:
